JOHANNESBURG - Limpopo police are urging motorists to drive with caution this Easter weekend, as wet weather conditions are expected to make roads slippery across the province.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a warning for possible thundershowers affecting most parts of Limpopo for the remainder of the long weekend.
During a media briefing on Friday, provincial police commissioner Thembi Hadebe appealed to drivers to obey road rules and remain vigilant, especially with the expected high traffic volumes.
She also warned motorists to be alert to roadside crimes and avoid stopping in unsafe areas.
Hadebe said that extra care on the roads was essential to avoid unnecessary accidents and fatalities.
"The weather is not okay. It has been raining. Therefore, they must just abide by the rules of the road so that we avoid unnecessary fatalities. I must also warn those that bank on hitchhiking that they must refrain from hitchhiking."
