CAPE TOWN - Cape Town metro police have arrested two suspects for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Officers responded to a shooting complaint in Heinz Park, where they discovered an air rifle hidden outside a house.

Following a brief foot chase, the suspects, both 23 years old, were apprehended.

They were found in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Metro police spokesperson Ruth Solomons confirmed that the suspects are currently being held at the Samora Machel SAPS.

"The suspects ran away when they spotted the officers but were quickly apprehended. One was found with a black 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off and fully loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition. The other had three rounds of ammunition in his possession."
