JOHANNESBURG - The women who accused televangelist Timothy Omotoso of rape have expressed optimism that they helped potential victims from falling prey to the controversial church leader.

Omotoso was in police custody for 8 years following the rape and trafficking allegations levelled against him.

He was, however, acquitted of all charges earlier in April.

While the women, who also testified as witnesses during the trial, expressed disappointment in the court's finding, they are still happy that he was not released during that period.

Lerato Msibi said they are still filled with pride despite the court outcome.

“We are walking away out of this with pride because we know that we have kept that man away for 8 years and in that, we have saved a lot of young girls, women, young boys, and men from his horrendous behaviour.

“We also freed the members of that congregation because we have witnessed them living their lives differently compared to the strict rules of his church.”
