CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape says it's unacceptable for Premier Alan Winde to withhold the provincial government report into the George building collapse.

Following the five-storey building collapse, which killed 34 people in May last year, the province commissioned an independent investigation into the tragedy.

Earlier this year, Winde handed over the report containing the structural engineering findings.

However, Winde's decision not to make the report public has rubbed the ANC in the province the wrong way.

Winde said there was a risk that the police's probe into the matter could be compromised if the report was made public now.

However, ANC provincial spokesperson, Khalid Sayed, said that Winde must step up and stop hiding.

"He promised the report on the George building collapse would come to the legislature, now he must deliver. Thirty-four people died, the families and this province deserve answers."
