JOHANNESBURG - The deputy national commissioner responsible for crime detection in the country, Shadrack Sibiya, believes getting crime under control in Gauteng will have a knock-on effect on the rest of the provinces.
Sibiya recently sat down with EWN to discuss some of the constraints police were facing, especially in its detective units.
He said that Gauteng remained a pressure point.
"Gauteng is the hub; it is the economic hub. Everything happens in Gauteng. If we can get Gauteng under control, the rest of the provinces will be easy to manage."
Apart from Gauteng, Sibiya said the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), and the Eastern Cape were also focus areas when it comes to serious, violent, and organised crime.
"In the Western Cape, you have your gangsterism and drugs, in KZN you will have your hitmen and construction mafia, the murders are high there. In Eastern Cape, you’ll have your extortionists, insurance killings and gangs as well. In Gauteng, you have your Eldorado Park gangsterism."
