JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to share his views on the state of affairs in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday morning as day two of his engagement with provincial leaders continues.
Ramaphosa will deliver the opening address at the meeting with the provincial government at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The province continues to grapple with a number of serious challenges, largely related to poor service delivery.
Among the most pressing concerns for Eastern Cape residents is ongoing water shortages, rising crime rates, and high levels of unemployment.
When Ramaphosa visited the Gauteng government in March, one of the key issues he highlighted was the state of service delivery in Johannesburg.
He expressed concern over dysfunctional streetlights, malfunctioning traffic lights, and the overall cleanliness of the city centre.
In contrast, the Eastern Cape is grappling with different challenges, which include rising crime rates, inadequate school infrastructure, lack of access to running tap water, and high unemployment levels.
Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane is expected to present a detailed report outlining the measures his administration has taken to address these issues and improve conditions in the province.
