CAPE TOWN - Cape Winelands officials said they were overwhelmed by the positive feedback they received from residents about a prospective new airport in the area.
Previously, residents had raised concerns about noise, traffic, and pollution.
However, at Tuesday’s public participation in Durbanville, residents showed support for the R8 billion development.
Travellers could board flights at the Cape Winelands Airport by 2028, with officials satisfied with an environmental impact assessment ahead of construction.
Airport officials said they were pleased with the outcomes of the assessment and the report has been made public.
"We're optimistic and excited about how plans have been progressing, and the team is working full steam ahead,” said Cape Winelands Airport spokesperson, Deidre Davids.
She said the airport expansion would be a huge cash injection into the local economy.
