CAPE TOWN - ActionSA has expressed deep concern at Eskom’s latest operational update, which reveals that R3.6 billion was spent on diesel in just the past 30 days.

ActionAS member of Parliament, Alan Beesley, said that of this amount, R1.34 billion worth of diesel was burned in the first 10 days of April alone.

The party’s concerns come as loadshedding remains suspended after returning briefly over a month ago.

Beesley says diesel-fired generation costs are twelve times more than coal.

"This exorbitant spend reveals a harsh truth. South Africa hasn’t ended load shedding; we’ve simply replaced it with an unaffordable illusion, paid for by hard-fought taxpayers. What is hugely concerning is that Eskom’s energy factor is at a current critical low of 56%, which is well below the target of 70% to end load shedding."
