KZN municipalities to receive over R300 million for water provision

JOHANNESBURG - Municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal will receive a R317 million cash injection towards efforts to secure access to water for communities across the province.

The grant funding has been issued by the national Water and Sanitation Department to alleviate pressure on the province, which has been battling for years to provide running water.

The provincial Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) department has welcomed the funding.

COGTA spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila said, "The additional allocation under the water services infrastructure grant includes Ugu District, which got R15 million, Newcastle R15 million, Majuba R15 million, and Zululand District R55 million. Furthermore, the Zululand District Municipality received an additional allocation of R217 247 000."
