JOHANNESBURG - Former Sizok’thola presenter on Moja Love, Xolani Khumalo, is back on the frontlines of South Africa’s war on drugs after a slew of charges against him were provisionally withdrawn.

On Monday, the former TV star walked out of the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court a free man when his list of charges, including murder, robbery, and malicious damage to property charges, were temporarily dropped.

Earlier this year, Khumalo was spotted patrolling alongside the Gauteng government during drug raids in Johannesburg while he was still facing criminal charges.

The move to rope in the controversial personality on raids in Johannesburg drew some criticism but provincial officials stood by him, saying he was fit for purpose and committed to their crime-fighting mission.

Khumalo first rose to prominence for his uncompromising stance on drug dealers, broadcast on national television.

But in 2023, that approach came under scrutiny after the death of suspected drug dealer, Robert Varrie, who passed away following an incident during the filming of the show.

On Monday, Khumalo made a brief appearance at the Palm Ridge Magistrate Court, expecting to stand trial. Instead, he walked out free, for now, as the case was put on hold, pending further investigation.

"I’m going to do it 10 times now because things are getting out of hand, back on Moja Love, back on the same show. We will continue working."

Now, despite the controversy that’s surrounded him for over a year, Khumalo said that he was more determined than ever to continue his mission to clean up communities.
