JOHANNESBURG - The trial into the murder of Senzo Meyiwa will return to the Pretoria High Court on Monday, with hope of a continuation.

It was paused for three months after one of the lawyers, Thulani Mngomezulu, died, leaving his client, Muzi Sibiya, to decide who would represent him going forward.

Sibiya and four others are being tried for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain in Vosloorus on the East Rand.

Mngomezulu’s passing left Sibiya at a crossroads over who will take over the quest to prove his innocence.

In December, Sibiya, who was allegedly among the men who kept watch outside Kelly Khumalo’s house while Meyiwa was being killed, told the court that he would like to be represented by Advocate Charles Mnisi, the lawyer for the alleged gunman, Mthobisi Mncube.

Mnisi returned to court in January and asked for more time to prepare.

"I deem it very prudent and very judicious for me to request that I be afforded an opportunity to go and read the record, particularly those portions as they relate to accused 1."

On Monday morning, the investigating officer, Brigadier Bongani Gininda, will return to the witness stand for further cross-examination.
