JOHANNESBURG - Another child has died in the country after eating snacks allegedly bought from a vendor.
It’s understood that two siblings in the North West complained of stomach cramps while at school last week.
The little girls, aged 8 and 10, were taken to the clinic, where the youngest died.
Police spokesperson Adele Myburg said the 10-year-old was still in hospital.
"Mmabatho police are investigating an inquest after the police were called to a local clinic after an 8-year-old girl passed away. Initial investigations indicated that the girls bought snacks at a house in the village and ate it before starting to feel ill. Police investigations continue."
Another child remains in the ICU in Soweto after he ate snacks bought from a local spaza shop.
At least 23 children have died across the country since 2024 after some were confirmed to have ingested poison linked to the agricultural pesticide terbufos.
