The NPA is seeking to overturn the initial findings of both their deaths and the decisions of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to grant amnesty to their killers.
ANC national spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, said it was heartening that the NPA was relooking at some decisions of the TRC.
"I think it will be irresponsible for me to criticise the TRC. The TRC did the work that it did and more certainly, there are many families who felt that closure was not realised because some of the cases were not handled in an ideal manner, but I think we should respect the work that was done by the TRC. Now our system allows for the reopening of inquests."
