Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku says the free checks began on Friday, 11 April, and will run until 16 April.
"Basically, you bring your vehicle, you go to the pit, and we give you a report, and it's not to punish; it's not a punitive exercise. It's a corrective measure where we are actually saying you're going to the pit, and these are the issues that you need to fix before you go on a long road.”
Sileku adds that his department is prepared for the upcoming easter weekend.
"For all these years, you know our N1s and our N2s and our N7s, we find a lot of volumes in terms of cars and public transport and those are the kinds of roads that we’ll always put a lot of emphasis on trying to make sure there is a lot of visibility on our national roads."
