JOHANNESBURG - More than 120 drivers have been arrested for suspected drunk driving in Eastern Cape — and that’s in just one day.
Provincial traffic authorities ramped up road safety operations on Saturday ahead of the Easter weekend.
Most of the arrests were made in the Amathole and Sarah Baartman districts.
Transport Minister Barbara Creecy is expected to launch the national Easter road safety campaign on Sunday.
Provincial spokesperson Unathi Binqose said the clampdown will continue through the holiday period.
“A total of 122 suspected drunk drivers have been arrested on Friday night alone in the Eastern Cape as the build up to today’s Easter road safety activation to be led by Transport Minister Barbara Creecy intensified on Friday and Saturday night.”
