JOHANNESBURG - Khutsong residents, west of Merafong City Municipality, are advised to use other health facilities in the area to access medical services.
This follows the announcement of an indefinite closure of Khutsong West Clinic due to sinkhole threat.
The Gauteng Department of Health says the facility will be closed from 1 May 2025.
The department’s spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba, assured the community that ward-based primary healthcare outreach team services will continue in the area.
“We want to also request that when patients who have been going to Khutsong West Clinic go to these specific facilities, they must just make sure that they don't forget to carry their identity documents, either an ID, a passport, or a driver's license.
“And when they get to those alternative clinics, they must be able to inform staff that they come from Khutsong West Clinic so that they can then be able to be assisted in terms of linking them with their medical records for ongoing treatment and follow-up.”
Meanwhile, staffers from the health facility will be reassigned to other health facilities in the area due to the closure of the clinic
Modiba apologises to the affected residents for the inconvenience this closure will cause.
“So, we had to prioritise the safety and well-being of the community, our employees, to ensure that we don't put anyone's life at risk. So, we're pleading with the public to use alternative facilities. Patients who previously accessed services at Khutsong West Clinic are advised to visit any of the nearby facilities for uninterrupted primary healthcare service.”
