CAPE TOWN - The Early Learning Resource Unit (ERLU) is working to bridge the education gap by giving young children a strong foundation before they enter formal schooling.
The non-profit organisation (NPO) uses play-based learning to help children develop critical skills, preparing them for the classroom environment.
Teachers and principals involved in the programme said their classrooms are noticeably calmer and more structured as a result of the training and support they receive.
CEO of the ERLU Tracy Fortune said their team works across the Cape Town to reach children in under-resourced areas.
“So we support practitioners and ECD [early childhood development] centre and families in poor communities to really work with children around child development.”
