JOHANNESBURG - Two men alleged to have held captive and tortured a group of young boys are expected to appear at the Evander Magistrates Court in Mpumalanga on Friday.

The pair face charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

They were arrested earlier this week after a boy, who managed to escape the facility where they were being held captive, reported the matter to the police in Secunda.

The victims, the majority of whom are underage children, were all allegedly subjected to horrific treatment at the hands of the two men at the facility.

It's understood that the boy told police that he and many others were deprived of food, while he was further forced to swim in a mud dam, cover his head in the mud and was repeatedly hit with a sjambok and pick-pipes.

Police spokesperson Jabu Ndubane said that he was taken from his home in March.

"The police are particularly concerned about reports that some of the victims were brought to the facility by their own parents under the guise of disciplinary measures."

She added that investigations were continuing to find every person involved in the torture of the young boys.
