JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has emphasised the need for a more structured approach to ensure the survival of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
Earlier this week, the party revealed plans to draft a set of rules, outlining the dos and don'ts of engagement between GNU partners.

This decision was taken due to the ANC's dissatisfaction with the Democratic Alliance (DA)'s behaviour, accusing the party of sowing division within the GNU.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula provided an update on the ongoing negotiations regarding the budget impasse in Sandton on Thursday.
On Tuesday, a visibly frustrated Mbalula addressed the media at the party’s Luthuli House headquarters, where he lashed out at the DA over the budget impasse.
His frustration stemmed from what he described as the DA’s arrogance, stating the party must decide whether it wanted to be in government or return to the opposition benches.
On Thursday, Mbalula told journalists that it’s high time the GNU was governed by rules.
"This is a Government of National Unity; leaders and their political parties must be respected. The ANC is advocating for a rules-based approach in terms of the functioning of the GNU going forward."
He said that although GNU partners may have their own separate ambitions, internal disputes would only make matters worse.
