The Mark Williams Foundation hosted a charity golfing day and auction in Johannesburg to raise funds.
Williams’ name is cemented in the South Africa football history books after he was among the goal scorers who won the African Cup of Nations trophy in 1996.
Almost 30 years on, he remains proud.
“Twenty-nine years later, they still call me the nation builder, and I am proud of that… I am hoping Bafana can change it in Morocco this year.”
– Mark Williams, football legend
Through the work of his Foundation, Williams hopes to change young lives in the community, particularly in his home city of Cape Town.
“… there is a lot of drugs, abuse, alcohol abuse, gangsterism ... I want to change these players' mindsets. It starts with school.”
– Mark Williams, football legend
“Sometimes as sports people, especially in our soccer fraternity, sometimes people talk, but we need to put that talk into action.”
