Chapter 9 institutions to launch inquiry into Omotoso acquittal

JOHANNESBURG - Chapter 9 institutions have announced the move to launch a commission of inquiry into the acquittal of Nigerian televangelist, Timothy Omotoso.
The Cultural, Religious and Linguistic (CRL) Rights Commission, the Commission for Gender Equality and the SA Human Rights Commission briefed the media on this move.
It has been a week since Omotoso was acquitted of all 32 counts of rape and human trafficking, with the court citing failures by the prosecutors on the case.

The CRL Commission, the Commission for Gender Equality and the SA Human Rights Commission will jointly conduct an inquiry into the processes that led to Omotoso's acquittal.
CRL chairperson Thoko Mkhwanazi–Xaluva: "For that reason, several institutions and individuals will be called to appear before an inquiry within the next few months to investigate the whole process and come up with recommendations."
The organisations are yet to determine the terms of reference of the inquiry.
Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said that South Africa's witness protection system would also be subject to investigation in this inquiry.
