CAPE TOWN - The organisers of the Two Oceans Marathon have apologised to qualifying runners who didn't receive a race-day medal.

Runners took to social media with a range of complaints about the 2025 event, including the lack of adequate water points, limited toilet facilities, and no medals for qualifying runners who finished the race before the cutoff.

Over 30,000 runners participated in the Ultra Marathon and 21-kilometre races this weekend.

The spokesperson for the Two Oceans Marathon, Toni Cavanagh, said they understood the frustration.

"We do absolutely apologise for the fact that we ran out of medals. It is not something that anybody wants to experience, and particularly for our runners who come from outside of South Africa, what you really do want to do is receive that medal. So, from the Two Oceans Marathon team, we do absolutely apologise."

Cavanagh said organisers would ensure that qualifying runners received their medals soon.

"We are making every effort. The medals have already been ordered, and we are contacting every recipient firsthand, but I think more importantly, people want to have an explanation, so internally from our side, we did have some logistic issues, which we are looking into."
