JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed police projects aimed at using technology to compensate for the lack of resources.

One of the projects police have put forward is to digitise the docket management system with the assistance of the private sector.

Ramaphosa officiated the launch of the first policing summit in Kempton Park on Tuesday, where he admitted that despite budget increases, the South African Police Service (SAPS) remains incapacitated.

"Even as the South African Police budget has increased over the past ten years, the reality is that the number of police personnel has been declining while the country’s population has been growing. The resources of the police have been stretched extremely thin."
