CAPE TOWN - Gift of the Givers said that its teams had been inundated with calls for help after heavy rains caused havoc across various parts of the Western Cape on Tuesday.

The humanitarian aid organisation said that a number of informal settlements across the Cape Metropole reported large-scale flooding.

The towns of Piketberg and Porterville were among the hardest hit by the inclement weather.

The organisation's Ali Sablay: "The West Coast disaster management teams has appealed for our assistance as heavy rainfall caused localised flooding in the towns of Porterville and Piketberg. Some of the roads have become inaccessible, leaving many residents stranded and many homes flooded."
