JOHANNESBURG - Provinces across the country will now have to provide police top brass with a detailed list of criminals involved in serious crimes, like Gauteng has done.
Gauteng was able to identify 450 crime kingpins involved in cash heists, hijackings, and ATM bombings.
At least 150 of these criminals have been arrested and 15 killed in the province in the past two months.
Speaking during the policing summit at Emperor's Palace in Kempton Park, Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu said each province will need to provide a similar list.
“As you heard, Gauteng has about 450 criminals that we should trace, and we are going to go to another province to find out how many criminals are there.
“In fact, a long time ago I said this, we want the number of criminals because crime doesn't just happen, it doesn't come from heaven, there are people behind it.”
