JOHANNESBURG - Health is influenced by modest daily behaviours in many areas, including relationships, our surroundings, and how we find meaning in life. It is not simply about what you eat or how often you exercise.
We are reminded of the significance of putting our health first on this World Health Day.
Most of us are aware that maintaining a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and engaging in regular exercise are all critical components of a robust immune system. However, there are additional, less well-known elements that can significantly improve your general well-being.
Living and working environments have a greater impact on our health than many realize. Air quality, indoor plants, and natural light can all affect energy, mood, and ability to concentrate.
In an interview with Eyewitness News, Nkosinathi Magnificent Ndhlovu, also known as Thee Zulu Yogi, a yoga and sound bath instructor, on the importance of maintaining a healthy exercise routine.
“It's crucial to take charge of your life, have a good, healthy body, and work around it by identifying which parts of it are feeling good and which aren't. You can do this by practicing yoga, pushing yourself and your limits in various poses, headstands, and other exercises, but most importantly, just enjoy your body and be free,” he said.
“Most people assume that practicing yoga consists of simply sitting there and reciting Namaste and meditating. However, yoga involves movement, bodily awareness, sweating, and enjoyment. Each yoga session offers unique advantages to each individual.”
Social connections
Although we frequently concentrate on factors like nutrition and exercise, having strong social ties is equally important for overall health.
According to a Harvard Health study, social connections can help people control their blood sugar, maintain a healthy body mass index, increase their chances of surviving cancer, lessen their symptoms of depression, and enhance their general mental health.
If you're feeling lonely or trapped, think about getting in touch with an old buddy or taking up a new pastime that will allow you to interact with individuals who share your interests.
