JOHANNESBURG - Angry Soweto residents have joined a countrywide call against violence towards children.
Scores of community members marched to the Moroka Police Station on Sunday, demanding justice for victims of sexual assault.
This comes after a 7-year-old girl was raped, allegedly at school, in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape.
The protestors, including civil society organisations, delivered a memorandum demanding that all GBV and rape cases reported at the station be resolved swiftly.
Level Up Organisation's Noziziwe Sibisi said that the abuse of women and children needs to be stopped.
"Let gender-based violence come to an end. We are not safe in our country as women. Down with gender-based violence, down with rape, down with all the inequalities women have to face."
