JOHANNESBURG - The second Africa Children's Summit, taking place under the theme Seen, Heard and Engaged, is on its third leg at St John's College, in Johannesburg.

The South African government, led by the Department of Social Development in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, is leading 2025 summit, having taken over from Nairobi in 2024.

More than 1,000 children from across the continent are in attendance to discuss key issues affecting their well-being.

The child-led conference is set to empower young advocates to shape policy recommendations and drive change for an equitable, inclusive Africa.

Minister of Social Development Nokuzola Tolashe took to the podium on Saturday and addressed some of the key issues.

She promised that plans to mitigate barriers to education, climate change, artificial intelligence (AI) and technologies, as well as violence against children, are in place to be added to President Cyril Ramaphosa's G20 discussions.

She said a series of activities in line with the discussions were at advanced stages and would be broadcast at the G20 Summit.

“These activities will culminate in the G20 Leaders' Summit in November this year. All the efforts that we are putting in place today from Nairobi, we hope and pray, in fact already we have agreed that we will deposit them to the president of the republic so that they become part and parcel of his broader agenda of G20.”
