DURBAN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has vowed to continue its fight against the 0.5% increase in value-added tax (VAT), saying there is still time to take action.
On Wednesday, Parliament passed the fiscal framework with 194 votes supporting the VAT increase.

The DA is, however, calling for the implementation of the hike to be suspended and has already approached the Western Cape High Court on this matter.
Speaking to the media during a by-election campaign in Durban on Saturday, DA leader John Steenhuisen said that the fight against the VAT increase continues.
“The reality is, however, that the fiscal framework that was passed by Parliament still includes a VAT increase, and we find that problematic.”
Steenhuisen said the DA will also engage other parties represented in the Government of National Unity (GNU) regarding the VAT hike.
“We will also try and find a way past this impasse, because we believe that it is South Africa’s interest to have a stable and accountable government in the country, and so we are willing to talk to any party who wants to grow the economy and create jobs within the GNU.”
