JOHANNESBURG - The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Thursday was deliberating on a complaint against former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.
The complaint was laid by impeached Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe last year, where he accused Mogoeng of violating his oath of office.
He says the violation occurred when he encouraged his then Deputy Patricia Goliath to file a complaint against him.
Hlophe wants Mogoeng to also face impeachment for encouraging Goliath to file a complaint against him and then presiding over the matter.
He accused Mogoeng of dishonesty and being economic with the truth.
Hlophe claims Mogoeng had a private meeting with Judge Goliath where he influenced her.
In October 2024. the Judicial Conduct Tribunal recommended that Mogoeng face an impeachment inquiry over the claim.
The JSC must now decide whether to endorse this recommendation – which would make Mogoeng the first Chief Justice to face impeachment.
