"No cake, no entry." San Francisco hosts largest cake picnic with a buffet of over a thousand cakes
It's like a bring and braai, but with cake ... for cake lovers.
CapeTalk's Clarence Ford speaks to Barbara Friedman, Digital Content Editor of Primedia Plus about trending online stories.
Engineer-turned-baker, Elisa Sunga, is the Cake Picnic's organiser and says it has completely taken off since its inception a year ago.
It's reported that the event was attended by more than a thousand people this year and featured a dreamy buffet of about 1387 cakes.
The only rule for this event was: "no cake, no entry."
Pastry chefs and home bakers put together some amazing creations, while others preferred to save themselves the trouble and opted for store-bought cakes instead.
“It was harder to get than a Taylor Swift concert ticket,” said Sunga, noting that the $15 tickets sold out in less than a minute.
San Francisco’s Legion of Honor was looking as iconic as ever Saturday during the second cake picnic celebrating its new exhibition by artist Wayne Thiebaud, famous for his paintings of sweet treats.
