When Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier and Premier Alan Winde were unavailable to accept a memorandum within a time frame stipulated by protesters in Cape Town on Tuesday, they quickly moved to Parliament, calling for Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube to address them.
An activist, who shared her personal story, said the lack of speed, urgency, and support from government officials in the province was unfortunate.
"I’m standing here as a victim of this same Department of Basic Education of the Western Cape [where] I was molested by an educator, and I walked out here with nothing but those scars. So, we will wait."
Police later dispersed the crowd with a stun grenade, concluding the march.
