Make sure you have enough fuel (carbohydrates and protein) before, during and after the race.
“Look at easily digestible carbohydrates like a banana, a bowl of oats or a smoothie… Something that is really simple and easy to digest.”
– Marie MacGregor, Registered Dietitian - Sports Science Institute of South Africa
Not an early eater? You can train your body ahead of the race to accommodate your breakfast.
“You don’t want to do anything different on race day. If there’s a certain breakfast that you like to eat, make sure that you eat that same breakfast… Certain gels, drinks, or whatever you’ve been training with, make sure that you use the same things.”
– Marie MacGregor, Registered Dietitian - Sports Science Institute of South Africa
McGregor also recommends avoiding high-fat and high-fiber foods the night before the race.
Good luck to everyone taking on the Two Oceans Marathon this weekend!
