JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg City Power is warning vandals of the fatal consequences of stealing electrical cables.

The message came after the body of a suspected vandal was found at the Houtkoppen substation on Tuesday night.

The metro's power utility said it believes that the man was electrocuted after coming into contact with live cables.

City Power’s spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, said areas supplied by the substation were left in the dark while the body was removed from the site.

He added that their power was reinstated on Wednesday morning.

“We condemn these criminal acts in the strongest terms. Let it be clear, previous outages were not really random occurrences. They are a direct result of these ongoing attacks on our infrastructure, and this is a harsh reality we are facing on a daily basis.”
