CapeTalk and 702's Africa Melane speaks with Mark Dingle about training, race strategies, and the mental grit needed to take on the Two Oceans Marathon.

Listen below:

The Two Oceans Marathon is a 56-kilometre ultramarathon and 21.1-kilometre half-marathon held annually in Cape Town.

This year, the 56-kilometre race takes place on Saturday, 5 April 2025 while the 21.1-kilometre race takes place on Sunday, 6 April 2025.

The golden rule a few days away from the race is don't try anything new, says Dingle.

In terms of training, eating, and kits - do what you know because adding anything new to your routine can be a disadvantage to your performance, adds Dingle.

Another top tip is to ensure you're not participating in the race feeling ill or with a lingering injury. Come to the starting line as fresh and healthy as possible, advises Dingle.

It's also important to be as mentally prepared and fit as you are physically. Visualise yourself running in the race, have confidence in yourself and take comfort in knowing that your training has prepared you well.

If you're running in either of the races; have a fantastic one!
