While a smartphone with all the fancy features including multiple cameras fit to make films can cost up to R40,000 or more, Goldstuck asked, do budget-friendly smartphones under R1,000 exist?

Goldstuck says upon researching the answer to this question, he was "surprised" to find just how many quality options there are. 

For people just looking to stay connected and take the odd photo without the fancy features of a smartphone and that hefty price tag -- Goldstuck found six options:
