JOHANNESBURG - More than 225 motorists have been arrested for drunk driving in Johannesburg in the past week.
The operation, which ran from last Monday to Sunday, forms part of ongoing efforts to reduce road fatalities across the city.
While authorities have made significant inroads, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) says drunk driving remains a persistent and dangerous problem.
Spokesperson Xolani Fihla explains: “We urge all motorists to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol. Plan ahead, designate a driver, or utilize alternative transportation options. Your life and the lives of others depend on it.”
He says lawbreakers will face the full might of the law.
“The JMPD will not tolerate reckless behaviour on our roads and will continue to enforce the law rigorously. We are dedicated to creating a safer environment for all Johannesburg residents and visitors.”
