JOHANNESBURG - The increase of all social grants, excluding the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, will come into effect on Tuesday.
Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana announced the hikes during the 2025 Budget Speech earlier in March.
South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi has assured beneficiaries that they will still be able to access their grant payments after the May deadline to migrate to the new Postbank black cards.
“We also want to appeal to our beneficiaries that, because there has been an extension, they must not relax and wait until the last minute to rush again to the sites to do the card swapping because, obviously, we are trying to make sure that we avoid what had happened in terms of clogging the system, but secondly, having those snaking queues.”
