Government to keep close eye on disaster relief fund spending

JOHANNESBURG - The national government has assured the public that it will be keeping a close eye on how the R1.4 billion disaster relief fund will be spent.
Since December last year, there has been several natural disasters across the country, leading to the deaths of 40 people.
Corporate governance minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa said government was closely controlling its purse.
Hlabisa said that also includes greater monitoring of where its money goes and how its spent.
He added that municipalities and provincial governments would be required to give quarterly reports on how they are spending their disaster funds.
