JOHANNESBURG - A community policing forum (CPF) member has been killed in Kroondal, outside Rustenburg.
Twenty-eight-year-old Sydney Mboweni was shot in the head last Thursday and found dead in his car.
Acting provincial commissioner of North West Patrick Asaneng is calling for justice for the victim.
According to the police, Mboweni left his home after supper, and shortly after, his girlfriend heard gunshots.
An unknown man reportedly arrived at the house and informed her that Mboweni was involved in an accident.
Upon investigating, the girlfriend reportedly found Mboweni’s car had crashed into the neighbour’s fence, with a gunshot wound to his head.
The 28-year-old’s murder comes a week after six Soshanguve patrollers were stoned, shot and killed.
North West police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, said the acting provincial commissioner has condemned the incident.
“Major General Asaneng indicated that Community Police Forums are legally established structures to assist and support police in the fight against crime and that the killing of those who volunteer to ensure safer communities cannot be condoned.”
He added that, at this stage, no arrests have been made.
