CAPE TOWN - While the African National Congress (ANC) said there is still no agreement on the budget in the Government of National Unity (GNU), ActionSA has slammed the Democratic Alliance (DA), accusing it of trying to sneak in other personal income tax increases.
On Friday, Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana revealed in Parliament that the DA had agreed to certain increases in its submission on the budget, including the 0.5 percentage point value-added tax (VAT) increase, on condition that the ANC scraps the Expropriation Act.

ActionSA Member of Parliament (MP) Alan Beesley said according to the minister, the DA has submitted its own tax increase proposals.
“The DA submitted their proposals on the budget which included increases in personal income tax, the fuel levy and excise duties.”
He accused the DA of hypocrisy and not putting South Africans first.
“While the DA has made a lot of noise about the 0.5% VAT increase, they have been silent on the tax bracket creep which is going to cost hard-working and hard-pressed South Africans an additional R18 billion.”
