JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress’s (ANC) integrity commission is presenting a report to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Sunday on investigations carried out against members accused of misconduct.
The integrity commission is an internal structure within the ANC, tasked with probing allegations of misconduct and monitoring ethical behavior of party members.
The NEC, which is the ANC’s highest decision-making body between conferences, is meeting at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg on Sunday.
Chairperson of the ANC’s integrity commission Frank Chikane will present a comprehensive report on its investigations into party members and will also provide recommendations to the national executive committee.
The NEC will then be responsible for determining the appropriate actions to take against members who have appeared before the integrity commission in connection with allegations of misconduct.
While the ANC has chosen not to disclose the names of those mentioned in Chikane’s report, spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri said there are about “four of five” officials on the report.
"The NEC will then develop a view of that report, and we will communicate the decision of the nec in respect of the work and the particular reports that are going to serve before the NEC today," said Bhengu-Motsiri.
The ANC has faced criticism for delaying action on recommendations made by the integrity commission.
Bhengu-Motsiri said the NEC has pledged to act on the commission's recommendations promptly in future.
