JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has concluded its three-day National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.
The NEC, which is the ANC’s highest decision-making body between conferences, discussed a range of domestic and international issues.
Finance Enoch Godongwana’s proposed budget, South Africa’s diplomatic fallout with the United States and the ANC’s integrity commission were central topics during the meeting.
The ANC's National Executive Committee has received reports from the party's integrity commission concerning its investigation into party members accused of ethical misconduct.
The commission has provided recommendations to the NEC regarding actions to be taken against those who have tarnished the organization's reputation.
The NEC also had an extensive discussion about Enoch Godongwana's budget, as many political parties continue to reject it due to the proposed 0.5% increase in Value-Added Tax.
Despite this, the ANC remains confident that the budget will pass in parliament.
ANC Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane says the meeting also thoroughly reflected on South Africa's diplomatic tensions with the United States.
"Our approach is about managing and maintaining our trade relations as well as engaging using the diplomatic channels."
She says South Africa will, however not bend to the United States’ pressure.
