JOHANNESBURG - Lobby group, AfriForum, said it would increase neighbourhood and farm watches in selected areas.

The organisation was dealt a blow on Thursday when the Constitutional Court dismissed its application for leave to appeal a judgment that found singing the chant, "Kill the boers", did not constitute hate speech.

The right-wing organisation said that, as a result, it would add to its 177 neighbourhood watches to protect Afrikaner communities.

However, no evidence has been presented showing a causal link between the song and any violence.

AfriForum CEO, Kallie Kriel, said: "If we are not going to be protected, Afrikaners and farmers and minority communities should protect themselves within the framework of the law. We already have 177 neighbourhood and farm watches. We will expand that, make it stronger, because we want to make sure that our children would also have a future in this country, free from the human rights being infringed and the dignity being infringed by people calling that they should be killed."
