CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Finance MEC Deidre Baartman said that the province's economy was projected to grow by 0.9% this year and 1.4% in 2026.
Baartman tabled the province's budget for 2025/26 in the provincial legislature on Thursday.
She said the growth would be driven by a recovering agriculture sector, easing interest rates, and robust finance sector which contributed 34.2% of the province's GDP in 2024.
Baartman said that transport was forecast to grow by 1.2% this year, and 2.8% next year despite infrastructure backlogs.
The MEC said that rapid growth of online sales drives had increased demand for transport services.
"For the youth that might be wondering what the internet of things are and how this is driven in terms of online sales, if you are a Checkers 60/60 fan or a Wheelie Dash, or Takealot fan, thank you for helping us grow the Western Cape economy and creating jobs."
