CAPE TOWN - Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said that AfriForum and Solidarity have conceded that farm murder statistics were accurate.
She said that the organisations had met with the police to clarify the allegations of attacks on the white minority with reference to farm murders, acknowledging that the numbers don’t support their claims.
Ntshavheni told a post-Cabinet media briefing on Thursday that Cabinet was also aware of the "false claim" that there were approximately 72,000 white farmers who had signed up to relocate to the US in response to the invitation by the Donald Trump administration.
Cabinet noted with concern the continuing spreading of false information campaigns by Solidarity and AfriForum and their allies at home and in the US.
Minister Ntshavheni said to prevent further misinformation, the police met with AfriForum to discuss the claims.
"At the meeting, AfriForum conceded that the crime statistics as released by the minister of police are accurate, including on farm murders. It is common knowledge that some of the farm murders are committed by people known to the farmers, including family members."
Ntshavheni added that according to data from Stats SA, South Africa only has just over 41,000 farming units.
"Cabinet is also aware of the false claim that there are approximately 72,000 white farmers who have signed up to relocate to the USA in response to the invitation by the US president."
Ntshavheni also confirmed that law enforcement agencies were investigating the organisations for any violations of South African laws.
