More businesses closed doors after spike in liquidations: Stats SA

JOHANNESBURG - Business owners are still feeling the pressure as more establishments close their doors following an increase in liquidations.
Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said the total number of liquidations increased by 1.4% in February compared with a year ago.
This means 140 entities went out of business during this period.
Stats SA released the latest data on liquidations on Wednesday.
The principal survey statistician at Stats SA, Onica Mushwana, said on a month-on-month basis, liquidations dropped by 12.5% in the three months through February.
“The 140 liquidations recorded in February 2025 include 14 compulsory liquidations and 126 voluntary liquidations. Broken down by the type of institutions, 73 companies and 67 close corporations closed their doors in February 2025.”
