SALDANHA BAY - Proceedings in the Joshlin Smith trial were adjourned for about two hours on Thursday for kidnapping and human trafficking accused, Kelly Smith, to be treated for apparent nausea.

Investigating officer in the case, Captain Wesley Lombard, was in the dock on Thursday to testify about his investigation into Joshlin's disappearance.

Lombard interviewed Joshlin's mother, Kelly Smith, and her boyfriend, Jacquen Appollis, a week after the little girl went missing.

Lombard highlighted the concerns he identified when he read the statements that Smith and Appollis made to police a day after Joshlin went missing.

Lombard told the court that Appollis stated that when Smith came home from work for lunch on the day the child disappeared, Joshlin was still there.

The captain said that he found it strange that Smith told police that when she came home to have lunch, Joshlin and Appollis were not home.

The captain also referred to a statement by Smith's eleven-year-old son, who stated that Appollis made food for Joshlin after his mother went back to work.

Lombard continued with his testimony after the matter was adjourned for Smith to receive medical treatment.

Smith earlier indicated that she was feeling nauseous, prompting Judge Nathan Erasmus to adjourn proceedings for two hours.
