JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Ekurhuleni has blamed African National Congress (ANC) councillors for disrupting Thursday’s council meeting, which led to delays in Mayor Doctor Xhakaza presenting his State of the City Address.
On Thursday, chaos erupted just as Xhakaza was about to deliver his speech, with EFF and ANC councillors involved in a heated verbal exchange.
This happened after EFF councillors launched a silent protest during the meeting, raising placards compalining about poor service delivery.
EFF Gauteng Chairperson Nkululeko Dunga said the EFF was not to blame for the disruption.
"We had our own peaceful protest that the ANC felt agitated by because it highlighted the flaws of the department that the ANC is overseeing in the City of Ekurhuleni."
