CAPE TOWN - The state's main witness in the Joshlin Smith trial has been questioned about why she did not tell police about Kelly Smith's alleged plan to sell her daughter to a sangoma.
The former accused turned state witness Lourentia Lombaard was cross-examined by Kelly's defence attorney on Tuesday.
During her testimony, Lombaard maintained Joshlin's mother and two co-accused Jacquen Appollis and Stevano van Rhyn, were complicit in Joshlin's disappearance.
Kelly Smith's lawyer, Rinesh Sivnarain told Lombaard she had numerous opportunities to come clean about Smith's alleged plan to sell Joshlin but chose not to say anything.
Sivnarain questioned Lombaard about her interactions with police in the week after Joshlin went missing.
Lombaard previously testified she witnessed Smith sell Joshlin to a sangoma for R20,000 before the accused allegedly offered her money to keep quiet.
The former accused told the court when police visited Smith on the day Joshlin disappeared, she told Smith to tell the officers what she had done with the child.
Lombaard told the court she was angry at Smith for sending police to her home but chose not to tell investigators about what she witnessed because she was scared she would get arrested.
The trial continues.
